CP’s Carrothers Named Gatorade Player of the Year for Indiana

The 2020-2021 season was already a huge one for Crown Point basketball’s Jessica Carrothers. Not only did the junior lead her team to a 25-1 record and the 4A state title, but on Thursday she was named the Gatorade Indiana Girls Basketball Player of the Year.

The award, which “recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field”, is a well deserving

honor for Carrothers after averaging 23.3 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.1 steals, and 3.9 assists last season. In the classroom, she sports a 3.74 GPA and is a volunteer at several local organizations, including Best Buddies and the Lake County Animal Shelter.

Per a press release issued by Gatorade, Carrothers now has the opportunity to award a $1,000 grant to a local or national youth sports organization and can submit a video nominating that organization for a $10,000 grant.
